英語学習奮闘記

7歳児と4歳児双子娘の育児と英語勉強両立。英検1級。TOEIC930。邁進中。

Never buy stupid English conversational books!

Here and there are English conversational books in book stores and English teachers force us into buying them

*別の言い方:English conversational books run rampant in book stores

I used to do so too as I was told and like others did, but actually you don’t need to.

It is because, number one, obviously we can study online free of charge. Almost all knowledge we need is accessible online. So, as long as the English learners are not kids, we do not need to buy them. The second reason is such text books are often boring to death.

そもそも、どうやって留学無しで英会話って上達するんでしょうか?

First of all, how can we acquire English speaking skills, without going abroad for study?

*because speaking a language often entails several skills

ところでいつも忘れるのですが、LISTENING SKILLS, SPEAKING SKILS, のS。

リスニングにせよスピーキングにせよ、スキルはそれぞれに対して複数あるのでSを付けるとのことです。

Unless you are highly gifted, the procedure is very simple and general; remembering basic expressions and apply them. That's it.

もうこれは、天才とかじゃない限り自分にまつわる話をするのが近道だと思います。本をみてスキットで勉強して、ではなく、とにかく最初は自分の日常を話すのです。日記を書いて添削してもらうのもかなり効果があると思っています、特に初期。そして今度は日常の一部でも週に一回とか月に一回しかおこらないことを話す。書く。これができたらやはり日常ってふつう限られたことしかしないんで、それこそ時事について話したり。。と。

Assuming that you have learned basic English Grammar, the followers are the steps you should take.

Step1: Speak or write about your daily routine. It is very relevant to you, so it tends to easily stay in your mind. For example, I walk my dogs in mornings, I set out for school at 7:00. Something like that.

Step2: Speak or write about what is part of your daily life but happens occasionally.

For example, I will go to an election next Sunday, My dogs have to get a shot to prevent it from getting rabies.

Step3: Speak about contents of movies you watch or current events. Especially what happen in movies often are far from our dairy life, so by doing this, we can certainly widen our vocabulary.

Also, in all these steps, what we have to bear in mind is that English class is not where you speak English fluently, but where you find the topic you can't express. Thus, there is no need for being disappointed with yourselves just because you can't express yourself well in that class.

あと、ここで何度も自分に言い聞かせているのですが、英会話レッスンは上手く話す場所ではなく、自分の欠点を探す場所です、もし、レッスンで一度も躓かなかったら、勉強できてねーって思わないといけないのかも、ですね。

With these steps and the attitude mentioned above, we can greatly improve our speaking skills. Hence in my opinion, watching your favorite TV programs is much more useful than buying ordinary conversational text books.

私のオタク先生はドラゴンボールZで英語を学習したそうです。そして私も英会話本で覚えた知識よりも好きな本やドラマで覚えた知識の方が役に立っています。
